'Where else is there to go'? Thoughts I had this morning--and evening...
by sd-7 ini was just thinking of something this morning.
when presented with the possibility that the witnesses could be wrong, the typical response is 'where else is there to go?
' in short, 'if not us, who?

While the world stood still with tears and sorrow....
by Terry inon friday, november 22, 1963, i was in high school in the cafeteria in fort worth, texas sitting at a table filled with school chums.. my jehovah's witness buddy, johnny, was back from shaking john f. kennedy's hand in front of his hotel earlier that morning.. he and his family were (oddly) big fans of jfk.
go figure.... .
not less than ten minutes later the speakers in the cafeteria crackled to life and the principle, g.b.trimble announced that president kennedy.

Wasn't born then but seemed similar at 9/11. I was so pissed and ready to join up and take out some terrorists and everyone was just excited at how the preaching work was just going to take off. Thats the JW's real world. Hey who cares who died lets make some converts!!!!

todays WT study...the picture...?
by stillin ini wish i could scan it and get your thoughts.
it was a picture of a happy group of witnesses during a meeting for field service.
there was a. comment from a local high-horse-rider about a brother in the front row in the picture being disobedient.

Does the society assign circuit overseers based on their personalities?
by hoser inthe reason i am asking is that lately i've noticed a trend.
we get a real good down to earth guy who is easy to work with and we get used to his way.
of doing things and then 3 years later we get a self righteous abusive a$$hole that thinks he is above all.

Whats your personal perception of Religion ?
by thetrueone inmy personal perception of my own would be that religion is an organized agreement.
to a set of lies, cultivated upon human ignorance, fear and superstitions, structured.
on a framework of power and control.

I would say religion is a murderer.
I would say religion is a rapist.
I would say religion is a theif.
sounds criminal to me.

Doctrine or HIgh Mind Control as the Last Straw
by Band on the Run ini am curious as to whether the final gut deciding factor to leave was inappropriate doctrine or the overly intrusive control of the wt.
reading the bible normally opened my eyes.
i was born-in and never suspected that they were skewing the bible in such a ridiculous manner or misquoting secular sources.

First it was the study edition. It just screams cult.
Then since i always question blood doctrine i went to the internet for the rest of the story.
Unbiblical stance on disfellowshipping sealed the deal.
Now just looking for escape!

Read S. Hassan's Book: Do JW's really fit the cult mold?
by simon17 infirst time i got a chance to read his book, "combatting cult mind control" and was interested to see if jw's fell into the cult mold.
my opinion after carefully reading and having left the witnesses after almost 30 years is... no, they don't.
however, i would add that they wish they were but are simply too big and unwieldy to really pull it off.

Ok it's not a cult just because i can't freely leave it.
it's not a cult even though i have to believe everything they teach.
it's not a cult even though they have me turn in time each month to monitor me.
it's not a cult since it doesn't demand tithing, even though they have a thousand ways to get my money, and they don't tell me where it goes.
it's not a cult even though meetings and assemblies and conventions are not optional.
it's not a cult with all those behind closed doors elders meetings with their many secrets and especially those judicial commitees.
it's not a cult even though i can't have conversations with my wife about anything negative or informational when it comes to wts.
it's not a cult since getting appointed is based on feild service hours and commenting at meetings instead of those scriptural qualifications.
it's not a cult even though the governing body should be worshiped instead of God.
it's not a cult even though i can't decide myself what a conscience matter is.
it's not a cult but it walks like a cult and it quacks like a cult????

Really sad that JWs use medical issues as an excuse to refuse blood??
by trailerfitter ini cannot get over the amount of arguements we get into about blood with my wife.
she is medically trained,.. but her thinking is now retarded by the watchtower mentality.
one thing recently i refused to do lately was print a magazine article for her which was about blood complications this was an article from the new scientist magazine.

I think because they want to show the wisdom of god (governing body) when he says to abstain from blood. You know, as you are protected from all these bad things that blood can cause?

The Governing Body are Governing Pharisees
by believingxjw inan excerpt from the december 15, 2001 watchtower article, learn from me.. .
""from a study of biblical and secular evidence, we can conclude that the pharisees thought highly of themselves as guardians of the public good and the national welfare.
they were not satisfied that gods law was fundamentally clear and easily understood.

giving out bibles? I thought it was the watchtower that saved lives? is this a flip flop? Probably just trying to get rid of those bibles so they don't have to ship em to the new headquarters. To bad its not some other translation!
